Willow's summer skincare routine

Willow talks us through her summer skincare routine and her hair & make-up staples...

I live for these summer months;  the longer lighter days, the balmy, rose-scented evenings, the trundle of the combines harvesting late into the night.. I love feeling more carefree and I don't want to spend too much time on beauty rituals but do want to look and most importantly feel a little glowy and energised.

As beauty regimens go, I always believed mine was pretty low-key. But looking at my bathroom shelves this morning, I realise I'm not as understated as I thought. I do love a good beauty product and am a total sucker for anything that promises to make me look 12/ be more glowy/ less liney, even more so after my smallest recently asked me why I had “ so many deep lines all over my face”. However, time is of the essence and whatever I'm going to use, really has to work. I’ve always been fascinated by people’s beauty routines, one of my favourite jobs was as a beauty assistant on a women’s magazine and so to begin our wellness series, we’re delving into my own bathroom shelves, sharing my best products and discoveries.

My mother has drilled the importance of sunscreen into me ever since I was tiny and now it’s my first port of call, each morning as I get dressed, even if the sun is nowhere to be seen; for day to day, I alternate between Ultrasun’s honey tinted SPF 50 which also doubles as my foundation and a brilliantly, light, mousse from Heliocare. My best discovery for the boys' ultra-sensitive skin is from Altruist and was developed by an Australian dermatologist who got fed up with ridiculously expensive sunscreens.

Skincare gets more of my attention than make-up; the theory being that if my skin is good, the need for makeup is less.

I go to Jeanie Scott, my friend and skin-guru for facials, have a daily routine of cleansing with De Mamiel cleansing balm, toning with Chantecaille's rose water spray or Dermalogica's Antioxidant Hydramist, fighting the wrinkles and free radicals with Dermaceutic C25 serum or Skinceuticals CE Ferulic and protecting with a mix of the suncreams mentioned above.

Vitamin and supplement-wise, I recently started taking The Restored Sleep aid pills. They’re not designed to knock you out, more for improving the quality of sleep. I think they're so magical that I'm already panicking about what will happen if they ever stop production.

My hair is coloured and very fine - I need volume and texture big time. Kerastase Resistance Bain Volumifique and Densifique Fondant Densite are my shampoo and conditioning staples and I love Ouai's wave spray for a bit of beachy texture.

Make Up. I had a make-up lesson at MAC on my 15th birthday and I've used their Studio face and body foundation in C2 ever since. The only letdown is it's lack of SPF so I layer chantecaille’s ultra sun primer underneath. On top of that goes By Terry’s Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder to remove shine and set everything in place. Mascara wise, I'm yet to find one with better staying power than Maybellines’s iconic green and pink Great Lash although saying that, I’ve just started using Bobbi Brown’s new brand Jones Road’s mascara and so far it's getting a serious thumbs up.
